First, for those kiddos watching this blog like a hawk... Yeah, I still support my Star Wars addiction ...I just gotta keep it professional 95% of the time...but rest assured, I will be decked out in my best gear on May 4th, forcing choking folks working my nerves in my mind until the Jedi Counsel decides to initiate me with my purple lightsaber so I can continue the cause of the rebellion!

Oh yeah...it's National Star Wars Day! Did you really think I wasn't going to celebrate? via GIPHY Honestly, if it wasn't for Movie Licensing USA, I would have caught the "Jedi Influenza"...real disease...HONEST! Therefore, because I can't be a my own celebration, like a devoted fan and true librarian, I'm training Jedis in the library. No discipline issues thus far...over the years they've learned of my Sith Lord ways! Lol! P.S. One of my students kept calling Kylo Ren "Heineken." After being confused for a minute, I realized he meant Anakin...Lord Vader! Lol! I had to create a meme about it!

Happy New Year! To welcome my kiddos back to the library, I brought MY Christmas present to myself: Star Wars: The Force Awakens BB-8 Robot! Needless to say, it was a hit! I did it as a wonderful segway into coding. I began by making the connection to this blog, as I've had to learn a plethora of codes to get this "digital baby" of mine looking cute! :) Lol! Along with my Digital Learning Specialist and for the remainder of this month, I will be teaching my kids coding. We will use the app Scratch Jr . Check out their video here: Scratch Overview Video from ScratchEd on Vimeo . Be sure to check back for additions to the post, but more importantly, check out BLACK GIRLS CODE ! and please say a prayer for me because I would love to have a local chapter here in Houston open up...hire me! :) Watch how Kimberly's desire to open doors for her daughter led to her #PassionProject of developing the next generation of tech innovators: http://amex.c...

This year, we're excited to have Quirk Books participating as well. How can I hold a Star Wars Reads event at my library/bookstore/school? In 2012, we had over 1200 events at schools, libraries and bookstores across America. In 2013, we're changing the rules to make the experience even better. First, this year you don't have to sign up! In 2013, any bookstore, library or school around the world can hold a Star Wars Reads Day event. Put the date (Saturday, October 5th) on your calendar and start planning and promoting an out-of-the-world event. (Schools and school libraries are encouraged to hold their events on Friday, October 4th). As...
