Part of my calling in life is to "awaken" others. Therefore, when I came into the #LibraryLife I wanted to leave my thumbprint on it! Looking over my profession, I noticed the absence of multicultural librarians. After further immersion in the librarian world, #WeNeedDiverseLibrarians took root in my heart. Yes, the timing coincides with the #WeNeedDiverseBooks/#WNDB . Absolutely! But I also know the role and subtle power of librarians... selector/arranger of books, gatekeepers of knowledge and advocates for all aspects of learning. And those are just my top three! When I started using the #WNDB hashtag, there were a handful of like-minded individuals. Thank you glimmer of hope! But if you know me, I take a glimmer and turn it into a spotlight. :) But how? I love fairy tales, it's a hallmark for every literate culture! Today's National Tell A Fairy Tale Day ! Senorita Gordita by Helen Ketteman My rating: 4 of 5 stars For National #TellaFairyTaleDay, I dusted off this Latino version of "The Gingerbread Man" for my primarily bilingual campus! It's a wonderful rendition for inclusion of ELL learners! Instead of a gingerbread man, we have "Senorita Gordita!" Much like I would imagine a gordita would be if it came to life, Senorita Gordita is hot and sassy! But though she can "gas pass" her hungry enemies, it her wit, she needs to watch out for! I won't spoil it for you, but as an wise old owl said, "There's a time to be quiet and a time to speak." I'll ad-lib this "There's a time to diet and a time to eat!" Lol! Happy World Read Aloud Day! Please join the nation in celebrating #WRAD16 ! I've chosen one of my favorite books of all time... The Sneetches by Dr. Seuss! Oh how marvelously appropriate and exact was Ted Geisel in simplifying the prejudicial injustices of the world! Without delving too deep, we're still favoring those bellies with stars against those who have none upon thars! :)
